YNGR Design Ltd has transformed an old brick stable building into a dedicated workshop space for teaching Low Carbon Technology on Herefordshire, Ludlow and North Shropshire College’s Holme Lacy Campus.
The trailblazing project was delivered for a modest budget and within a tight 4 month timescale in order to meet the College’s strict funding criteria.
The existing steel trusses were retained with a new insulated steel roof and rooflights installed above. The external walls were insulated with Sheep Wool to improve energy-efficiency and lined with recycled Fermacell board to provide a robust and sustainable solution. The resilient workshop flooring is also 100% recycled.
Elsewhere new low energy lighting, Air Source Heat Pumps, roof-mounted Solar PV and efficient MVHR system all help create an exemplar low-carbon refurbishment appropriate for a national centre of excellence.
